Geriatrics Quality Improvement Science Fellowship


 

 

PROGRAM BACKGROUND

 

The West Health-UCSD Geriatrics Quality Improvement Science Fellowship is a first-of-its-kind program which prepares geriatrics-trained physicians to become leaders in quality improvement science for older adults. Combining West Health’s expertise in value-based care redesign with UCSD’s robust Geriatrics and quality improvement science infrastructure, fellows utilize a rich learning environment and mentorship team to accelerate new career paths in health system transformation

 

OUR MISSION

 

The mission of this fellowship program is to develop leaders, educators, and researchers who will:

  • Apply principles of quality improvement science to improve care for older adults
  • Innovate and continually improve healthcare within and outside of their health system
  • Teach and lead teams of healthcare professionals about quality improvement
  • Advance the science of quality improvement for older adults with a focus on older adult-centered design, team science, patient-reported outcomes, and high-value care

CURRICULUM COMPONENTS

  • One year personalized program including:
  • UCSD Implementation Science and Healthcare Leadership Coursework (optional Master’s Degree or Certificate)
  • Integration with UCSD’s Age-Friendly Health System Task Force and West Health institute initiatives for healthcare redesign
  • Mentorship from UCSD Geriatrics Faculty and West Health Institute experts in data science, policy, and business strategy

 FINANCIAL AND OTHER SUPPORT

  • Salary will be at the PGY level based on the candidate’s experience
  • Benefits include health, dental and vision care as well as paid vacation or sick leave

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Completed ACGME-accredited fellowship training in Geriatrics
  • Geriatric Medicine certified or eligible for certification
  • Active, unrestricted US license to practice medicine
  • US citizenship

 OUR VISION

  • Upon completing this one-year program, fellows will have the skills and training to:
  • Catalyze meaningful evolution of care models for seniors at a systems level
  • Combine QI with operational and financial realities of modern healthcare to create sustainable and scalable change
