Our Models of Excellence
West Health develops models in healthcare environments that explore how we might enable successful aging of our nation’s seniors. From a Geriatric Emergency Care Center that implements specialized senior acute care to an integrated oral and wellness healthcare center, we hope to take the findings in these environments and use them to better improve senior healthcare outcomes for all seniors.
Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center
Serving Seniors’ Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center is an integrated, community-based organization, which delivers a comprehensive approach to care by offering a suite of nutrition, case management, and wellness services to culturally diverse, low-income seniors in downtown San Diego. In addition to daily meals, more than 25 nonprofit organizations offer an array of support services such as case management, mental health services, legal and financial counsel, healthcare and housing assistance.
Gary and Mary West Senior Dental Center
The Gary and Mary West Senior Dental Center provides affordable, high-quality oral healthcare with comprehensive education, clinical, and wellness services for seniors in need, enabling them to live healthy and productive lives. Established in 2016, the Senior Dental Center is integrated with a suite of nutrition, case management and wellness services offered through Serving Seniors’ Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center located in downtown San Diego, creating a one-of-a-kind community-based system of care.
Gary and Mary West Senior Emergency Care Unit at UC San Diego Health
Launched in 2016 with an $11.8 million capital grant from the Gary and Mary West Foundation, the Gary and Mary West Senior Emergency Care Unit at UC San Diego Health in La Jolla, California is our flagship model focused on establishing best-in-class senior-specific care in an emergency setting. It serves as the site of a multi-year applied medical research initiative where we are studying health outcomes and the cost-effectiveness of providing enhanced emergency care for seniors.
