Together with a talented and diverse group of researchers and professionals across healthcare delivery, social science, data science, and medical professions, we explore opportunities that will improve acute care for seniors in the emergency department, home, and community; chronic care settings for older adults that may need care at home; and supportive services so seniors can receive the care they need, at a lower cost, wherever they are.

High Costs, Broken Promises: Healthcare in America West Health annually convenes a summit in the nation’s capital focused on fueling the best ideas, innovations and practical policy prescriptions to change the trajectory of the cost of healthcare in America. Aligning closely with the West Health Policy Center’s work, the summit features leaders from many sectors of healthcare, including policymakers, healthcare providers, health systems, researchers, economists, insurers, government, industry, advocacy groups, and patients. Launched in 2016 with support from the Gary and Mary West Foundation and the West Health Institute, our flagship model in acute geriatric emergency care serves as the site of a multi-year research initiative where we are studying health outcomes and cost-effectiveness of providing enhanced care for seniors within the Emergency Room.

The institute is collaborating with Geisinger Health System to study treatment at home options that would provide healthcare in a patient’s home as an alternative to hospitalization.

Meals on Wheels America is the oldest and largest national organization supporting the more than 5,000 community-based programs across the country that are dedicated to addressing senior isolation and hunger.
