FAMILY CAREGIVER'S PERCEPTION OF HOW THE HEALTH SYSTEM AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT SENIORSDescription
Family caregivers are more likely to have frequent interactions with the health care system when caring for their loved one. As such, they have strong opinions and perceptions of how well the system is responding to the needs of seniors. In this session, we present results of a national survey that assessed perceptions of the health care system and is the extent to which perceptions are influenced by age and caregiver status. Additionally, we will discuss West Health Institute's research efforts to identify and support the family caregiver.
Family caregivers are a vulnerable population relative to non-caregivers and are more pessimistic about healthcare in the US. They report more difficulties accessing care and believed innovative approaches such as in-home care and telemedicine would be helpful.
Presenter(s):
Gregory Norman, PhD, Senior Director, Clinical Research, West Health Institute
Jill Slaboda, PhD, Senior Research Analyst, West Health Institute
